OpenPG2  Project

0.25f
- Units get experience on combat (first formula to be tested) and leaders
- Units can be renamed, either from unit window as from HQ
-
Unis can disband on a certain turn (need Suite 4.19b to define - see below)
- There is a "test" version to research combat formula which records 20 combat results to a text file for each single attack.

And fixes these errors:

  • Some scenarios at the first turn,  had player's units marked as if they have already moved.
  • The option to lay a minefield in the forest displayed on screen but didn't work
  • In a surpise attack the ambushing unit had no attack capabilty(transport) and no attack values HA & SA = 0 but it still inflicted damage on the surprised unit.
  • Transport icon and movement type is same as the units. Also movement method tooltip
  • A recon can move into a river then keep moving and also has full movement like the recon leader. Recons have a penalty for phased movement.
  • Tanks with no air attack enabled and AA=0 can fire on planes and the tank receives incoming fire from ATY.
  • Reinforces sometimes appeared as phantom units
  • Also combat formula is slightly changed according feedback received
  • can re-name enemy units, even though the button to do so is grayed out
  • bombers can attack units adjacent to them having range 0 (they can if had range >0 though)
  • Ground units received support fire when attacked by a bomber
  • When a friendly unit is under the enemy bomber, anti-aircraft guns can't select it to attack, and switching into air mode, the anti-aircraft gun is deselected
  • Units could move, fire, cancel move, and then fire again
  • When I try to deploy paratroopers, the option to deploy is greyed out, but if I click on it, the paratroopers can deploy normally.
  • If you deploy from a water transport and click on a hex that is around the transport but does not allow deployment (a water hex), nothing happens, but if select the unit again, you get the movement area of the transport. However, when you click a hex in the movement area, the unit deploys to that hex instead of the transport moving there.

Suite PG2

4.19d
Removed
"*DeployErr" caption for units having reinforce turn but deployed status
4.19c
Included the possibility to put any reinforcements into some buffer (like HQ pool) without changing a reinforce turns for placing them in new hexs (just as you do with deployed units)... can move single units or all the reinforces with a click.
Also on Map View Default filter doesn't show units at HQ.
4.19b
You can enter a negative reinforce turn if you want to test this OpenPG2 new feature. Just enter the turn you want the unit to be disbanded as negative numbers. Scenarios tweaked this way are still playables with current PG2, but unit wont be

Peoples Suite

4.18a
Fixed a bug on units global changes ... setting random experience didn't work properly
Revised deploy radio functionality on Units View, fixing a minor issue with reinforces deploy status, so units belong only to HQ, Reinforce or Deployed.

OpenPG2  Project

0.24f
- Reinforces management is working now
- Supply rules are implemented as to be tested / improved
- A movement cost stable can be read from an external text file (which can be created using Suite game set editor (export movement as report).
If a MovTbl*.txt or MovTbl*.log is found on EFile folder, it will be loaded and used instead of default table.

And fixing these errors:

  • It wasn't allowed to deploy en same hex both a paratroop on ATP and also a unit on NTP
  • Deployment list shows leaders, experience and transport markers
  • ATY units received return fire from units they attacked (if the unit was within attacking range)
  • Units landing on shore can immediately attack, even if artillery
  • aircraft vs naval unit attacks got very strange results against the plane
  • Units being fired upon by artillery in an adjacent hex return fire
  • It was impòssible to make bombardment of unspotted hexes or empty spotted hexes
  • Sea deployment hexes~neither ATPs or NTPs show when deploying at sea.
  • Airplanes could not fly over minefields. They stop just like ground units
  • Airplanes could restore to full strength and full ammo, without being over an airfield
  • When loading savegames, all units were reset to base strenght (overstrenghted units were reset)
  • After loading SAV/CSV files, map data was wrong.
  • Some senarios at the first turn,  had player's units marked as if they have already moved.
  • The option to lay a minefield in the forest displayed on screen but didn't work

Peoples Suite

4.16a
I forgot to document but Suite has changed the way it loads icon descriptions files. As there are some different datfiles over there (modgen.dat, unigen.dat, napgen.dat, …)  I thought it would be better to keep icons descriptions sorted out by naming these files same than the datfile to which it is linked, so if you use standar modgen you should use modgen.txt (or csv) but if you use napgen or unigen then you don’t need to reconfigure the Suite, just rename the proper descriptions file as napgen.txt (csv) or unigen.txt (csv). This implies the current setting on Settings and Folders have changed to be an alternative (or default) descriptions for icons is no file matches the datfile name.
I released 4.16 but  I forget to include half the changes needed ….

4.16
Fixed a bug on core Army cost because Suite used unit's over-strenght  regardless of unit's experience bars.
AAR has been improved and now it shows better info on units and prestige management, so it can show if a unit is green, silver or gold, the adjusted campaign prestige cap per victory type, the accumulated prestige on trigger hexes, and the amount of prestige  you will get at start of next scenario.

There is a new field available on  Equipment View for custom usage. It is intended as an auxiliary free text  linked with each efile item to store any info you can need. You can sort and filter by the new AuxData field and a dropdown combo is also included so you can fill it by picking an already existing value. Its content is stored as EQUIP97.AUX file which has the same struct as EQUIP97.txt file

PG2 Shp Tool

2.01
Although actual game executable cannot use it, the tool allow to include within panzer2.dat, icons as .S16 format (better resolution no palette restricted) - same than those used by PeG - as the new OpenPG2 will allow to use them. They can be added and show up within the tool with a different bacground color.

Suite PG2

4.18h
Suite now passes to Gilestiel's MapFinder the mapfile in those cases the mapfile is not found and so mapnumber cannot be read. Gilestiel's MapFinder will check the mapfile on its database showing the picture if it can - or the mapfile withing a no picture box showing the missing mapfile. This allows a much more  clear info about maps needed for a campaign.

In order to allow custom descriptions for custom Datfiles I changed slightly the way Suite seeks for description txt/csv files.
First it tries to load a txt file named the same as the Datfile and if not found then it loads the txt/csv file you have configured.
This mean if you have a panzer2.txt file in addition to panzer2_v2.txt file, then you need to remove/rename panzer2.txt in order to load panzer2_v2.txt

Suite PG2

4.18f
There is a new prestige report of a campaign, including the cap, turns prestige until BV/V/TV/L,  prestige awarded for BV/V/TV/L and prestige available on the map.
There is also a "Winnable prestige" button to see prestige available on each scenario  (map and turn prestige) without loading it.
Prestige Calculator has been improved to show better info.
New options to Export/Import units using Excel CSV file and so allowing to edit before importing (importing can be done only into scenarios). They work the same as with current XUD format.
If you edit using Excel, remember you need to Save As ... and select on bottom type combo "CSV (comma delimited)"
Be aware unit's data is exported as plain values, and whichever you cange using Excel cannot be checked when importing, so you should check by yourself what you do. It is an advanced feature asked by advanced modders.

4.18e
When importing duplicate items from EFile, country replacement only worked on first unit., t is fixed.
Icon report (for scenario or efile) now goes to the currently selected item on the view.
In order to test OpenPG2, Suite can read peoples .s16 files for unit's icons when included within panzer2.dat. F2 keyborad switches shp/s16 priorities

4.18d
Scenario list option (menu scenarios) has been reworked to be more useful.

4.18c
Fixed a couple of errors on campaign report

4.18b
There is a new option to get a report with just the maps needed for a campaign. It is on Browser View report options (printer icon), after checking campaigns in a folder.
That maps needed sumary is also included on standar campaign report (scenarios, dates and maps) from campaign menu if you load a campaign on the editor. And if  you select to report as html (default) you get also a link to see the maps filtered on Gilestiel MapFinder.
That last link to Gilestiel MapFinder with all maps needed,  is also included on any of the html reports you get after checking campaigns in a folder, scnearios in a folder or missing files for a single campaign.

4.18a
Campaign editor avoid showing invalid garbage data (old data not reset). Moreover, when saving the cam file, that unused data es cleaned.

4.18
Checking - and optionally downloading - has been strongly improved, report is much clear and unzipping checks and removes read-only attribute for .shp if set on the zip file. It also allow to check all files for a campaign; all scenario files on a folder,  or all mapfiles on a folder. All text files for single campaign or for campaigns in a folder have been checked and improved also.

There is a new feature to swap 2 unit's position on scenarios and savegames.

Global equipment changes had a bug on initializing the class combo, which made wrong default filter (it was shifted by 1). Now it is fixed.

All logfiles and most of the reports are created now on a SuiteLogs folder which is created automatically for you to easily isolate these files.

Suite now uses the same palette than game and PG2 Shp Tool.

PG2 Shp Tool

1.13
Fixed the internal palette used, which was the same as Fred Schlanda set for his tool, but Game uses a slightly different one.
Now it uses the same paletta than the game.
To check easier palettes I've included a new Compare Palette tool, which shows two palettes both as a color table and as a rgb colors list.  At start, it shows the current palette and the default game palette, but you can load any other palette to compare.

The package include the old Fred's ascii palette, the PSP ascii palette and the game asii and binary palette, I  have removed the Photoshop palette from the package.

Suite PG2

4.17a
Thanks to the work made in cooperation with Gilestiel, now is possible to download and unzip missing maps (.map and .shp files) just by clicking on "Refresh" button from start view.
While checking your scenarios and campaigns, Suite will ask you what to do for any missing file it can find, so you can decide which actions you want to let the Suite to take and which ones  you prefer to do by yourself.
All the scenarios are now checked, not only those defined within a campaign as before.
At the end a report (html) will show up telling you what files had been downloaded and/or unzipped and if any is still missing (for example because you have skipped to download automatic) a link will be included to download manually.
You have also buttons to do it later by accessing Gilestiel's Mapfinder with all the files already filtered, or to do automatic accessing Gilestiel FTP.

Mapfiles (.map) can also be checked and downloaded without downloading mapfiles.zip when you let the Suite to do it, only the missing .map files will be downloaded into your scenario folder.

I've revised also all the related reports, to clarify some of the info.

There were an error after loading a mapfile, which made Suite crashing on exiting. It is fixed

PG2 Shp Tool

1.12
Fixed a bug when packing/repacking as now it prevents including an empty panzer2.dat (you cannot include any file starting by "panzer2")

4.15a
Fixed some issues when creating new scenarios from scratch.
Tooltips for bits 2 and 3 withing byte 2 are changed.

4.15a
Testing attack sound works again.

4.15
For those who use gamesets extensively, I've include a "recent gameset list" menu on main toolbar, to allow quickly switching.
I've improved also saving & restoring ini files, including all the settings as an alternative to using gamesets to develop under the Suite.
And for those who like to have different game folders, now they can put a copy of the Suite on each one and create a SuitePeG.ini file to avoid read settings from windows registry, so each instance can be use a different settings (a specific .ini file).

4.14b
Gameset icon is properly replaced also on Alpha 3.0.

Suite PG2

 4.16 R
Fixed an issue when you change unit equipment through the unit view pop up on Unit View, the list item was not update to show up the new equipment.
The report you get from Browser view (start view) has changed to allow downlñoading very easy all missing maps by linking to the new feature on Gliestel's site.
Anyway on the form there is a new hyperlink to get filtered on Gliestel's site all missing maps if you want to do once cloded the report. In addition double clicking o any missing map will link to Gliestel filtering just this map, so doenloading that specific map is quite easy.
There is a new option to convert Peoples map picture (mapXXX*.s16) to PG2 .shp format. As it is a rare option, you can convert just 1 map, (no batch mode) but it avoids saving as bitmap, fixing to PG2 palette, loading as bitmap and splitting into packed map*.shp, it does all steps with just 1 click.

4.16 Q
Gliestel's fantastic Map Finder site is added to Suite's start page so you can go there to find your missing maps very easy.
There is a new tools to move, copy or swap items on Equipment view.
There is a new tool to convert all maps in a folder from SHP format to BMP format.
Unit checker tool now remembers your settings
Suite now adds a dot for empty efile item's name. Also "Make equipment playable" checks for empty names and insert a dot to avoid game malfuction

4.16 p
Map number is also include on campaign report (this report was obtained from Flow & Summary window), in addtition this report can be got also from Campaign menu
I've fixed a minor bug while exporting Efile items, class filter had  an   index shift.
Names.txt buffer is incresed as to allow reading all names.
Sort order when selecting equipment by the doialog is now remembered.

4.16 o
I had a missundertanding of how prototypes parameters (custom timeframe basically) should be read and so Show Prototypes dialog was showing some wrong items sometimes.
Now it is fixed and Show Prototypes dialog shows the acurate items

4.16 N
An error on global equipment changes has been fixed. When changing range value, initiative was changed also.

PG2 Shp Tool

Suite PG2 4.16m

On Campaign View, the index to current scenario was reset each time the view is changed, now it is fixed
Now is possible to sort equipment items while selecting, as when purchasing units and when changing equipment, transport or appearance using pop ups

4.16i
On equipment View, country filter was making some troubles on 800x600 screens.
Creating units stacks on Map View has been reworked. Now when you drag a unit upon another (must enable "stacks allowed" checkbox) Suite takes care the moved unit has an index higher than the existing one so it really is located on top of the stack.
It seems game shows on top of a stack the unit with the higher index.

4.16h
New options on Equipment view to filter:
* units not purchasable
* units which are valid at a certaing data (Year+Month)

Fixed an error which made FlaK class units not to be shown on equipment view transports dialogs
When selecting a folder, disquettes will not be checked anymore, only disks from C-Z
While on Map View, if you try to edit a hex name but there is no name assigned, a new one is created on the fly, though Suite will ask to be sure you want it.

4.16g
included similar options than with icons, for e-file sounds.

4.16f
Oops, button re-enable editing Start prestige cap, didn't worrk. Now it does.
Another minor change is on Map view, when you hover the mouse outside the map picture, botton status bar will show infor foe selected hex, instead of turning blank.

4.16d
"Start prestige Cap" filed is disabled (but can be enabled) to avoid mistaking where to set the cap. Also there is a check in case it has a value different than 0, as it could mean a mistake. That check is included also in the manual report.

4.16d
There were a bug when "Refresh list at start" was used making Suite crash when exiting. It is fixed.
In addition any time you change Settings, they are saved to registry at once so in case suite crashes, you settings wont be lost.
I have restored the possibility of editing the map file from scenario Map View also, as some people have asked to

4.16c
Fixed a bug making Suite crash when cleaning more then 400 names
There is a new option to save settings (same as when exiting) on File Menu

4.16b
Campaign remover  includes the possibility of checking and removing picture maps also (MAP#??.shp)
"Check campaign units" option now includes an "Evaluate" button to test what it does.

4.16a
Updated all links to the help files on-line (at my new site)

New option when importing E-Files to change country number on the fly avoiding to make a global replace later.

Two new options for:

  • Save the icons list of all the units of the Efile which is loaded to a text/csv file. It will include also unit's name, class and country and if csv format is choosen, MS_Excel will be launched as soon as it is created.
  • Replacement of icons as defined on this text/csv file. Suite will read all lines and will replace any icon on curently loaded Efile if found different. The replacement is made by item#. The list does not need to be sorted, and only items found on both will be checked. A summary report will show which changes have been made so you can discard changes if you goofed
Peoples Suite  4.14a

There were a bug when "Refresh list at start" was used making Suite crash when exiting. It is fixed.

4.14
Full compatible with newest Redball's alpha 3.0 patch, as soon as you configure to read settings from a gameset made upon a patch 3.0 alpha.
It will read 20 or 31 flags based on the gameset you use and will load proper country names and lables according the GUI file.

Dot locator graphic editor also supports old SSI style or the much better new one included on alpha patch 3.0, which works for any place on the world.

Gameset editor includes now the possibility to configure default infantry overstrength units for 3 countries

I have expanded also the possibilities for editing units data from pop up windows, either on scenarios or e-files.
E-files can be loaded manually a different GUI and also a different flagset from an external .s16 file. This is specially useful when importing, creating conversion tables or comparing e-files.

I've included also most of the new tools made for Suite PG2 as:

  • Save the icons list of all the units of the Efile which is loaded to a text/csv file
  • Replacement of icons as defined on this text/csv file.
  • When importing E-Files source country can be changed on the fly avoiding to make a global replacement later.
  • Create conversion table tool has been enhanced (se Suite PG2 4.16)
  • There is a campaign remover tool under campaign menu
  • There is also an option to hide all scenarios included on a campaign from scenario list on game, to get a cleaner list on game.

All the links to the help files on-line are now properly pointing to my new site.

PG2 Shp Tool  1.10

Descriptions for icons are automatic loaded on Dat view now. Panzer2_v2.txt  loads the first time you load a .dat file and it doesn'tt reload again when you load another .dat file. But you can load a different txt or csv file manually.
The last one loaded is remembered and loaded next time.

In addition filter feature has been enhanced, doing almost the same it does on the Suite (though text descriptions are only  shown for the highlighted item and you cannot edit any desciption).
You can filter files having the text you type either if found on icon name or found on icon description, according the checkboxes you set. The combo quick filter to isolate all units icons (files having 9 icons) or interface files (those having anything different to 9 icons) work the same than before. At this time you cannot type a former $ to make it match at the begining of the filename, as you could on previous release, but you can concatenate texts using $ (same as within the Suite)

Peoples DAT Tool  1.27

There is a new button to the PeG-S16 file highlighted to PG2-SHP file, just select destination folder and the PG2 file will be ready.

Suite PG2 4.16

Create conversion table tool has been enhanced - thanks to Leon's good suggestions.

  • There is a new button to add a line for each not-used-yet item on #1. The item selected on panel #2 will be used as replacement  item, so if you want to replace with 0, be sure you have panel #2 item 0 highligthed.
  • Sincronizing items is now more customizable allowing to select which list, if any will be sincronized, so you can keep your filter on panel 2.
  • Last filter used is remembered even beween sessions for each panel.
  • In addition there is a new choice when replacing units using such a table. As soon as a unit is found not included on the table you will be prompted to define if you want it replaced with equipment 0 item or you want to leave unchanged. This answer will be used for any other item not found on the table

All the tools using a second E-File (conversion table, compare files, importing e-files items) will ask for a s2nd GUI file in order to load the proper countries and classes names for that second e-file.and use them on pop up  windows also. In addition an external flagset can be loaded to see the proper flags for that 2nd e-file.

On Equipment View you can also load manually a proper GUI and flagset replacing the one loaded automatic for the Suite, in case you want to edit an efile whose flags doesn't match the one loaded on panzer2.dat. By default Suite will look for that flagsets on FlagSwitch folder as I cannot imagine anybody not using yet that fantastic tool and shp files made by Alder & Leon.

When editing a scenario or saved game, its mapfile is shown but editing is no more possible. Now there is a new choice to quickly launch Map editor to edit scenario mapfile, without nrowsong for it.

Dossier checkboxes settings can be remembered to be used next time you enter.

Global equipment changes, allows to set or reset single transport weight's bit, sane as with attributes.

Peoples Suite  4.13g

Attachment cost was supoused to be the same when buying units than when selling, but Redball has figured out Peoples uses two different formulas, so it can be configured different, and so I've included on this update. See on Gameset editor, Misc tab
4.13h
Removed all new stuff on attachment cost included on 4.13G, once Redball has figured out all instances Peoples uses the formula.
This release will detect if you had changed something on attachment cost and will fix parameters automatic to the proper values. Be aware now you cannot set values as 45 you should set 40 or 50 but nothing between..

Suite PG2 4.15

New tool added to set all scenarios defined for a campaign as not showing in game with a single click. It is available either from Campaign Menu, and from Campaign Details Dialog. If a campaign is loaded, the tool will hide that campaign scenarios, otherwise you will be prompted to pick one.

New option to remove all specific files for a campaign. Of course it does not remove any map, smk or sound file, only .CAM .SCN and  TEXT files (txt / deu / fra) will be removed from disk. You will be prompted to select a campaign and then all files will be removed form the folder they are. I've included the option to copy the files to a different folder before removing, as I thought it could be usefull to zip and distribute campaigns or to make backups.

There are some other minor improvements as the ability to change ammo and fuel automatic when you change equipment units while on Map View (right clicking) and also there is a new check box on Equipment View to exclude the units the player cannot purchase

4.15a
Campaign remover tool do not remove any file unless you make a backup copy, as some files could be used by another campaign.

4.15b
Campaign remover tool, now includes a window  to set user choices. So each copy option (cam files, smk files, mus files and map files) has a checbox to do or not. Removing files has also a checbox to avoid doing. This way the tool can be used to isolate on a different folder all files used by a campaign. It also checks if files can be removed safety avoiding to do if used by another campaign.
4.15c
Added a new list to check shared files, and fixed a issue on detecting shared files
4.15d
Global equipment changes had a bug when changing mel files, it is fixedshared files
4.15e
Create conversion table tool has a new button to add a line for each not-used-yet item on #1. The item selected on panel #2 will be used as replacement  item, so if you want to replace with 0, be sure you have panel #2 item 0 highligthed.
In addition there is a new choice when replacing units using such a table. As soon as a unit is found not included on the table you will be prompted to define if you want it replaced with equipment 0 item or you want to leave unchanged. Editing the map file is no more available from Map View, you must use Map Editor instead. So you cannot change, terrain, nor roads nor map number in any way, only scenario related settings. You still can load another SHP or BMP but no changes will take effect on the map file.

Map Editor Tool, now can change the map size in 4 different ways (automatic, by end-point, by end-full-position or by tying width-height).
In fact as soon as you load a map file, Suite will check if there are any black frame on bottom or right side, and if so, it will alert you about that. This checking can be done at any time and there is an option to let the Suite to adjust the image by excluding any black frame on bottom or right side of the image if found. You can also resize the image by hand, either clicking on a new end-right-bottom point or selecting an hex position to make it the last one full visible.

There is also a new Global Map Changes dialog, which allows to resize the map by typing a new width and height. This option shows also a terrain usage summary and let you replace all hexes having a given terrain with another (although it can be done right now much quicker using quick selection options)

Resizing will be use mainly to exclude undesirable black frames, but can be used also to enlarge the current image, creating new black frames to be filled within the Suite or using an external graphic editor. Just  save the image as BMP (bitmap) and use your favourite editor to complete the map, load again the bitmap split into the SHP tiles to finish your map.

Suite will alert you any time the image is changed to create/update the SHP tiles and if you don't, it will ask to save the image as BMP.

Added a pair of combos on Global Unit Changes. to replace a specific equipment code on units having it with another one.
* Export equipment items to another e-file shows, on left bottom side, stats for that unit.

* There is a new "Compare E-Files" tool on equipment view, showing two panels for the currently laded e-file so you can compare much easily two items as both stats are shown. But you can load a different e-file on 2nd panel and then you can import/export or copy items between both e-files. Can also edit any item on any of the e-files. If a second e-file is loaded you will be allow to save changes (and will be prompted to save if anything is change when exiting)
* Fixed an old bug when using spin controls to change selected row/col position on Map View
* New tool to check and report all campaigns within a folder. It is the same reports you can get loading a campaing, but without needing to load anything. Just click on printer icon on start view and select the folder you want to check. Simple and quick to use.
* New sort option on Units View using a "reverse" unit name. Do not panic, it wont convert "Guard" into "drauG" but it convert "2/3th/V" o¡into "V/3th/2" to see all corps/divison units together if using this sort order.
4.14b
*  Spanish release had a bug (a missing icon) which make it crash on entering Map View. No changes on English release.
4.14c
*  On Map Editor, no new names could be added if only loaded a bitmap.
4.14d
*  It seem as I forgot to handle some cases about mapnames, I'm pretty sure they are all fixed now

Also on Equipment View there are two small buttons to save current single item to disk and to restore a saved single item from disk (replacing current data whit that saved) It is a quick way to export/import single equipment items.

New feature to include also transports on conversion tables: Now an optional transport can be defined using this rule:

where:
SSSS     is source code to replace
RRRR    is transport code to remove if found on source unit
NNNN  is new code to assign
TTTT     is transport code to assign, regardless source transport found (so ths take prev¡cedence)

samples:
File 1 444 is motorcycle infantry
File 2 222 is regular infantry, 333 is motorcycles TPT
Define something like  444 : 222-333 to replace motorcycle with regular infantry plus motorcycles
or
File 1 222 is regular infantry, 333 is motorcycles TPT
File 2 444  is motorcycle infantry

   * can compare two items on same window to show better how many coincidences they have
   * of course can assign transport columns by selecting from a filtered table.

It was not possible to create a SHP with more than 99 icons using Shp Maker tool, it is fixed.
On Shp Maker tool now is possible to filter the files to show (and select) to allow selecting several files easier.
It is also possible, when using 3rd option,  to select multiples bitmaps to add to the Shp icons list on just one double click, avoiding to click on each one - which is somehow tedious for Shps with many icons like dossier.
When extracting all icons as singles bitmaps, they are named using 3 digits names so the icon sort index into the Shp is preserved.
